Being a Mom

UPDATED!! Wearable Breast Pump Comparison for all my Elastigirls: Elvie vs Momcozy vs Willow Go

February 6, 2023 by realgraceshines Leave a Comment

“The future is now.” At least that’s what I thought when I bought my Elvie pumps a couple weeks after Rigel was born. I was pretty convinced that these pumps would have milk overflowing my house. The reality was a bit more complicated. I have learned a lot since my first breastfeeding journey. While wearable…

How to Realistically Avoid Mom Burn Out

July 25, 2021 by realgraceshines Leave a Comment

If you’re reading this post you’ve likely already watched a couple of Youtube videos about how to avoid Mom burn out and have read several other blog posts. They’re going to tell you to delegate tasks, go on date nights, and get in your self-care. But let’s be honest when you’re down in the trenches,…

February 28, 2021 by realgraceshines 2 Comments

This week I completed my Master’s in Business Administration. For those of you who don’t know some of the background on why I chose to go back to school after already being a lawyer for nearly six years you can read this post. Since completing the degree I can’t help but think about what I’m…

When Mom Needs a Break: Overwhelmed and Tired

February 13, 2021 by realgraceshines Leave a Comment

I originally intended to write something about the changing dynamics of relationships once you become a mother for this week’s blog post. As the week progressed I realized that it was less my relationship with my husband that I wanted to talk about (or work on) and more my relationship with myself. I was overwhelmed…

Mommy Pressure: 1st Birthday Recap and Coping with Mommy Expectations

July 30, 2020 by realgraceshines Leave a Comment

I had been pinning things to my Pinterest board since January for Rigel’s first birthday. I could see it all in my mind, the perfect red, white, and blue decor to go with a Captain America theme. Rigel surrounded by his little friends from library story time. Family in town to watch him smash his…

Things You Should Never Say to a First-Time Mom

February 10, 2020 by realgraceshines 2 Comments

For whatever reason people have all kinds of advice when they find out that you’re going to be a Mom. I not only heard but read a lot of things from well-meaning people that did nothing but irritate the heck out of me. Here’s a list of the things that I think you should never…

2020: What the *bleep* am I Doing?

January 15, 2020 by realgraceshines 4 Comments

I had a blog post I was going to publish on January 1st filled with the usual ‘I’m going to crush this year’-stuff. I didn’t publish it because that’s not actually how I feel at the start of this New Year. I am so profoundly tired, more tired than I ever felt when I worked…

A Star is Born: Rigel’s Birth Story

July 14, 2019 by realgraceshines 1 Comment

At my 34-week prenatal appointment, I had a growth scan done just to make sure the baby was growing well. He was perfect but he was facing the wrong way. The little guy was head up in a complete breech position. At my 33-week appointment, my doctor and I had already agreed that given my…

2 Months ~ Devin is a tall girl with the appetite to match. She laughs at all of Mama’s jokes and thinks her siblings are fascinating. She doesn’t like it when you break contact and thinks chores suck. She’s working on rolling over but doesn’t see much urgency in getting it done when you’ve got a Mama that can do it for you. One Month ••• At one month old Devin loves milk though she sometimes overestimates how much of it she can handle • she loves to look out the window at the leaves falling and the squirrels scurrying • she thinks her siblings are a bit nuts • and that Daddy is the best human on Earth • she thinks Mama’s okay too but she also might be nuts 😅 (yes this post is 12 days late Mama is surviving) First outing as a family of 5 to support Rigel’s running. 🏃🏻 It’s a girl!! Welcome to the world Devin Naomi! Born 09/18/25 • weighing 8lbs 1oz • and 21 inches long. She’s our little miracle. Devin means ‘divine’ and we have witnessed God’s grace with her entry into this world. And Naomi after her maternal great grandmother; may she be just as feisty as she was. Got dressed up recently! 29 weeks 💐 2017 eclipse got engaged. 2024 eclipse watched it with my husband and kids. Dreams do come true!
