Don’t Be Afraid to Leave Security Behind

You wake up every morning and you’re dragging your feet. It’s not that you didn’t get enough sleep, it’s that your whole body is rejecting the idea that you have to go to work. You feel this way every morning. You spend your day at work just counting down the hours until you can go home and maybe, if you have any energy left do something that you actually enjoy.

Some people are okay living that way. They tell themselves that they’re providing for their family and they gut it out. Others, the idealists and dreamers, they need more. They need a reason to get up in the morning that’s more than just a paycheck. Maybe they want to change the world or just want to have the power to determine what their day looks like.

I’m a member of the latter group. I need more, especially on days when my body isn’t exactly cooperating. Asthma, mysteriously achy limbs, and fatigue that doesn’t go away no matter what, I need to enjoy what I’m doing. So that’s why I turned down security for freedom. I haven’t completely figured out what I’m going to be doing but I do know that I’m going to be determining my destiny and not just letting life happen to me.

I think I’ll be okay. I’ve already received offers for projects and I’m looking forward to everything I’ll create in 2016. Here’s to kicking the first Monday of the year’s butt!
